MA in Museum Studies is offered by Marist College and Istituto Lorenzo de 'Medici in the Campus Branch Marist-LDM Florence in Italy. The degree program has been designed to meet the academic needs of qualified students from around the world.

MA in Museum Studies is an interdisciplinary degree program that aims to provide students with an understanding of how museums operate within their social and cultural context. Drawing on the faculty of the US, UK and continental Europe, the lessons are taught using a variety of methods that are innovative, yet they share two principles fundamental core that is embedded in the philosophy of the program: 1) the involvement of museum 'with the public is paramount and 2) museum varies greatly in all over the world and should therefore be studied from the perspective of international comparison.

Located in Florence, Italy, one of the centers of the most important museums in the world, the program offers unparalleled learning and internship opportunities. Lectures by museum professionals expose students to a variety of international perspectives, broaden their horizons while visits to museums, historic monuments, archives, libraries and non-profit institutions that are relevant essentially use Florence as a classroom, integrating students in the city and their victims hands-on exposure on research and real-world museum practice. Both lectures and visits to facilitate the crucial transition from student to professional museum on the termination of the degree program.

The program, which will be taught in collaboration with the University of Florence and the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, besides trying to position itself as a much-needed forum for reflection and debate on museological issues in the city.

MUSEUM STUDIES CURRICULUM


Museum Studies curriculum is designed to give students a strong basic knowledge of the professional field of museology. This degree will position graduates for successful careers in the industry museum. To achieve this, the academic year consists of three terms of 34 credits: The Fall (13 credits), Spring (13 credits), and summer (8 credits). For the Fall 2015 semester of the optional, highly recommended 3 credit course will be available titled, Italy Museum Studies I. If students decide to take this in the fall semester of 2015 they will take 16 credits, as opposed to 13 for the spring 2016 semester, the optional, highly recommended 3 credit course will be available titled, Italy for Museum Studies II. If the student decides to take it in the spring semester of 2016 they will take 16 credits as opposed to 13.

  6. English Proficiency Exam results (for non-native English speaking students) one of the following exams required.

TOEFL - Students must submit a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based TOEFL test or 213 on the computer-based TOEFL or 80 on the internet based TOEFL exam.

IELTS - Students must submit a minimum score of 6.5 All scores must come directly from Marist College Testing Service. Note: Marist report code is 2400. Copies of test scores will delay the admission process since I20 will not be published without official documents.

Please note: TOEFL or IELTS scores must be aged less than two years from the first day of class in the period of the proposed entry to be valid.
