Social Media Marketing: Using Twitter’s New ‘Vine’ Video App

Social Media Marketing

Social Media Marketing - Just when you thought were were getting the hang of Twitter, they had to go and introduce a new video app to mix things up.

Twitter now offers users the ability for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad users to take and upload a six second video from its new mobile app, Vine. This creates a new and unique opportunity for brands to connect with their target customer base.

As you can imagine, coming up with a brief, six second video to share on the Internet can be a daunting task. If you are considering incorporating Vine into your social media marketing strategy, here are some do’s and don’ts of using this new video app:

Do’s:

  • Use a brief video to give a sneak peak of a new product or service that you will soon be introducing to the market. Be sure that you don’t give too much away in the video as you want to maintain the element of excitement about your new launch.
  • Humanize your brand by showing off your organization’s personality and culture in a quick video clip. People like to see other people, so don’t leave them out!
  • Offer a quick product  demonstration with your video. Since you probably won’t be able to cover all of the product’s feature’s in such a short amount of time, the goal of this video will be to direct consumers to your company webpage for more information.

Don’ts:

  • Cram an excessive amount of information into a six second video. Absorbing so much information in such a short time period can be overwhelming for consumers and leave a negative impression of your brand.
  • Create videos intended for a private group. All videos on Vine are available to the public and can be shared on other social media platforms.
  • Share Vine videos because everyone else is doing it. If you’re not comfortable with the technology or getting your point across within six seconds, this app is not for you.
  • All in all, Vine can be a very powerful tool for brands to connect with their customers via social media. As more small businesses begin to catch on to this new video app, it will be interesting to see how it impacts their social media marketing efforts.

Have you used Twitter’s Vine video app yet? What do you think?
