As with many countries, Kochi people are concerned about the waste management problem. Landfills are piling up and it seems as though the citizens are more concerned with the problem than the authorities as the citizens are coming up with solutions to this problem.

Because of this ever increasing concern, Yasoram Charitable Trust has introduced a plan with the help of residential citizens. The plan is to start organic waste management and organic farming starting with about fifty thousand homes in the area.

The way the project works is each home plants a few vegetables about one meter apart to begin organic farming. The way to manage organic waste is simple in which it can be installed in any household which helps reduce paper waste and food waste.

The project is known as “Zero Waste” in which people will be able to dispose of bio-degradable waste at the source.

The project consists of installing bio-fertilizer or biogas units into every household making waste management hassle free. Though each unit costs $550 per household, it will save citizens in the long run.

As Kochi strives for a better way of life, citizens continue to think of new ideas to promote better health and better management for all.

Kochi continues to share the concept of organic farming and organic waste to promote better health not only for Kochi, but for the world.
